What is Technology & Engineering Education?
Technology Education is a general education class designed to develop students' technological literacy, or their ability to use, manage, assess, and understand technology. Often our curriculum is confused with educational technology, which is aimed at the study of technology used in education, this is not the goal of Technology Education. Also, many people still think of traditional "shop" class when they hear the term Technology Education. We have evolved quite a bit since the days of "shop" or Industrial Arts class. One of the major focuses of Technology Education classes is to build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Our classes are design based and challenge students to create solutions to carefully designed problems in a variety of areas of technology. These areas include bio-related technologies, communication, construction, energy & power, manufacturing, and transportation.
Mission Statement
The Technology Education Program at Kate Collins Middle School is committed to providing a relevant, hands-on learning experience to help our students build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students in the program will use real-world learning experiences to better understand the technological world in which we live. Through the study of major technological systems, students will see that technology encompasses the entire human-made world. The curriculum meets or exceeds state and national standards and provides a strong foundation to build upon in high school and beyond.
